Our Puppies are raised with Puppy Culture

For years we have believed in Early Neurological Stimulation and accustoming puppies to the stresses they will see later in life long before they leave us. This gives our puppies a head start and makes life easier for both puppy and owner. We now raise our puppies using many of the practices we have already been doing- jut more structured as the Puppy Culture Method entails.

Early Neurological Stimulation-

Even before your puppy has open its eyes it has already started learning how to deal with stress and is getting a head start on a health cardiovascular system. We start with placing the puppy in different positions to allow the body to start acclimating to the changes. Research has shown puppies that have been exposed to ENS have a stronger cardiovascular system and can react to stress much more willingly later in life.

Startle Recovery-

Loud noises are part of life. Our puppies are conditioned to recover from startles and loud noises at the most optimal time in their development. This creates better rounded puppies that are more confident.

Problem Solving-

Once the puppies have developed from little blobs into mobile puppies, it is important to get their brain engaged. We start using problem solving skills such as “how to get to the food” games and when a little puzzle feeders for yummy treats.

Treat Association-

It is much easier to teach a puppy that is food driven. We start this at approximately 4 weeks of age. We use treats both commercial and homemade- cheese and meat.

Manding-

Our puppies go home knowing how to ask for things. We start early on teaching our puppies that the correct response to get what you want is to sit and make eye contact. This is a great way to start the obedience training and helps lead to a more well behaved dog as they grow.  Most importantly, it gives your puppy a way to communicate with you! Just as young children are now taught sign language to tell their parents what they need- this is our way of teaching our puppies a sign language to get what they need.

The great thing about Puppy Culture, is that although is really focuses on the first 12 weeks of life- these lessons last a lifetime! Puppy culture also fits right in with our philosophy of science based training and falls right in line with our other training base- Sirius Puppy training/Dunbar Academy which focuses more on learning once the puppy goes to their new home. We believe that the combination of the two philosophies is a comprehensive program for puppy development.
